The Spiritual Pillar

The Spiritual Health Pillar: Aligning with God

“Set your mind on things above…” — Colossians 3:2

Spiritual health is the center of everything. It influences every other pillar and anchors your life in truth.

What Is Spiritual Health?

Spiritual health is your relationship with God—your connection, alignment, and daily walk with Him.

Why It Matters

Without spiritual alignment, everything else feels off. True healing and purpose flow from a life rooted in Christ.

What This Pillar Covers

  • Relationship with God
  • Faith and trust
  • Identity in Christ
  • Purpose and calling
  • Obedience and surrender
  • Prayer and communication with God
  • Bible study and scripture meditation
  • Worship and gratitude
  • Discernment and spiritual awareness
  • Fellowship and serving others

Simple Ways to Start

  • Spend time with God daily
  • Read and meditate on scripture
  • Worship intentionally
  • Practice gratitude and surrender

When your spirit is aligned, everything else begins to follow. Spiritual health is not something you achieve—it’s something you live. It’s found in daily connection, quiet moments, surrendered hearts, and consistent pursuit of God. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to stay connected to the One who does.

Seek Him first—and everything else will follow.

  • Fasting (spiritual discipline)

Going Deeper into the Spiritual Pillar

Relationship with God

What it is:
A personal, ongoing connection with God—not just knowledge about Him, but true relationship with Him.

How to apply it:

  • Spend intentional time with God daily
  • Talk to Him honestly, not just formally
  • Invite Him into your daily life—not just difficult moments
  • Seek to know His character through His Word
  • Build consistency over perfection

Faith & Trust

What it is:
Believing in God’s goodness, promises, and plan—even when circumstances are uncertain.

How to apply it:

  • Remind yourself of God’s promises in scripture
  • Choose trust when fear or doubt arises
  • Reflect on ways God has been faithful in the past
  • Release the need to control outcomes
  • Pray for increased faith when you feel weak

Identity in Christ

What it is:
Understanding who you are based on what God says—not your past, performance, or others’ opinions.

How to apply it:

  • Study what scripture says about your identity
  • Reject labels that don’t align with God’s truth
  • Speak identity-based affirmations rooted in the Word
  • Stop striving for worth—you already have it in Christ
  • Live from identity, not for identity

Purpose & Calling

What it is:
The unique way God has designed you to live, serve, and impact others.

How to apply it:

  • Seek God for direction through prayer
  • Pay attention to what He has placed on your heart
  • Start where you are—don’t wait for perfection
  • Be faithful in small steps
  • Trust that purpose unfolds over time

Obedience & Surrender

What it is:
Choosing to follow God’s direction, even when it’s uncomfortable or unclear.

How to apply it:

  • Listen for God’s prompting through scripture and prayer
  • Act on what He shows you—don’t delay obedience
  • Release your own plans when they don’t align
  • Trust that God’s way is better than your own
  • Practice surrender daily, not just once

Prayer & Communication with God

What it is:
Ongoing conversation with God—speaking, listening, and building intimacy.

How to apply it:

  • Set aside dedicated time for prayer daily
  • Talk to God throughout your day
  • Be honest—He already knows your heart
  • Include listening, not just speaking
  • Keep a prayer journal to track growth and answered prayers

Bible Study & Scripture Meditation

What it is:
Reading, understanding, and applying God’s Word to your life.

How to apply it:

  • Read scripture daily, even in small amounts
  • Meditate on verses—don’t rush through them
  • Ask, “How does this apply to my life?”
  • Write down key verses and reflect on them

How to apply it:

  • Worship through music, prayer, or quiet reflection

  • Thank God in all circumstances—not just good ones
  • Shift focus from problems to His presence
  • Make worship part of your daily rhythm

Discernment & Spiritual Awareness

What it is:
The ability to recognize God’s voice, truth, and direction versus distraction or deception.

How to apply it:

  • Stay rooted in scripture—this is your foundation for truth
  • Test thoughts and influences against God’s Word
  • Spend quiet time listening for God’s guidance
  • Pay attention to conviction versus confusion
  • Ask God for wisdom and clarity

Fellowship & Serving Others

What it is:
Living out your faith in community and through serving others.

How to apply it:

  • Stay connected to a faith-based community
  • Build relationships that strengthen your walk
  • Use your gifts to serve others
  • Encourage and support those around you
  • Live out your faith through action, not just belief
